Last Call For Costa Rica

Trip Dates: September 1-8, 2018

We are putting out a last call for new people to sign up for our first ever trip to Costa Rica. This trip takes place September 1-8, 2018. The group will be staying at the beautiful All Inclusive Riu Guanacaste. This upscale resort is located on Playa Matapalo in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

We will be releasing any unsold rooms on May 31st, so book now to ensure you get to be part of this trip!

This trip is being lead by our web developer, Jon Rowe. Jon has been working with Saguaro remotely for over 2 years. Jon is a divemaster who completed his rescue diver and divemaster course 5 years ago in Costa Rica with the same shop we will be diving with, Rocket Frog Divers. For the past 5 years Jon has been splitting time between Canada and Costa Rica, always going back to this same area of Costa Rica to work with this shop and lead divers in the waters of the Gulf de Papagayo.

You will get to experience the best diving that Costa Rica has to offer during this trip! September is right in the middle of the green season in Costa Rica which means it will likely rain each evening for an hour or so. This season provides the best diving conditions in Costa Rica. The water is much warmer in comparison to the dry season. Most likely in the mid 80’s. The visibility also tends to be much better than in the dry season. There are still certainly poor days, but the typical range during this time of year will be 40-80 feet. The dry season, in comparison, tends to be in the 20-40 feet range.

Also, of note September offers an excellent opportunity to go to the Bat Islands and see the impressive bull sharks. Bull sharks at the Bat Islands are not fed or baited by dive shops and are in a protected marine park. This makes encounters very natural. There is also the opportunity to see the Pacific Giant Mantas, MASSIVE schools of mobular rays, eagle rays, dolphins, humpbacks, pilot whales, turtles, morays, white tip sharks, nurse sharks, and schools of fish like you have never seen before! The diving here really is world class!

Flight Options

From Phoenix there are a few options to get to Liberia airport in Costa Rica (airport code LIR). The best at the time of writing is still Southwest. Return flight with 2 checked bags can be had for under $600. This flight actually takes you there 1 day early (August 31st) so it will require you to upgrade to an additional night but will give you an extra day to get settled and relax at the beautiful resort, or to get out and see some of the wonderful sites Costa Rica has to offer!

If you have any questions about this trip please do not hesitate to email Jon directly at [email protected].
